Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Over a 37-year career, he led the company’s display division and later oversaw the electronics and mobile device sectors. In 2022, he was appointed co-CEO and Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics.

“Determined to Deliver Results”
In an internal message to employees, Samsung honored Han’s decades of leadership:
“He dedicated more than 37 years to advancing our television division. Thanks to his vision, we achieved global leadership in the field.”

Just a week before his passing, Han led an investor meeting where he addressed concerns over Samsung’s stock performance and warned of an economically challenging year ahead. He emphasized the company’s intention to pursue significant mergers and acquisitions to fuel growth.
“There are obstacles in regulation and national interests, but we are determined to deliver results,” he said.

“A Driving Force in Technological Leadership”
Following Han’s passing, Samsung announced that his co-CEO, Jun Young-hyun—who heads the semiconductor division—will now serve as the company’s sole CEO. Han’s sudden death is seen as a profound loss for the global tech community.
“Han helped us maintain our position of continued technological leadership,” the company said.
