Weekend Animal Rescue Operations Save a Flamingo at Sea and a Monkey in a Closet

It was a busy weekend for the Nature and Parks Authority as they rescued a flamingo at sea, and conducted an enforcement operation against citizens seeking to harm a nature reserve. In a separate operation, a monkey was found in a closet and rescued.

It happened off the coast of the HaBonim Beach in central Israel: a worker from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority noticed a flamingo that appeared exhausted and was struggling to fly away from the water. After a quick coordination with the relevant teams, the flamingo was safely rescued and transferred for examination and treatment at the wildlife hospital.

With the end of Shabbat, the Safari stated that its condition is good, and it is expected to return to the wild after recovery.

Operation in the Sharon: “Thorn of the Thistle”
During Shabbat, inspectors from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority operating in the nature reserves in the Sharon area identified dozens of suspects who entered the reserves with vehicles and horses, veered from the designated paths and attempted to flee the area.

Some even rode motorcycles.

Using a helicopter, the inspectors managed to locate everyone. and the offenses were enforced. Tal Rotem, the monitoring supervisor at the Nature and Parks Authority explained, “The movement of vehicles within the reserve endangers hikers, wildlife, and protected natural resources. We will do everything to protect the nature of us all.”

Monkey Found in a Closet
Meanwhile, in a house in the Abu Karin area in the south, an unusual sight was discovered: a guenon monkey hiding inside a closet.

After a report was received from the police, inspectors from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority arrived at the scene, calmed the monkey, carefully captured it, and transferred it to a protected shelter for further treatment.

This monkey is the 11th of its kind to be captured in the south out of 17 that have been caught across the country. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority warns the public that keeping wild animals at home is a serious offense, both for the animals and for public health.
