Against the backdrop of large wildfires near Jerusalem and in other areas across the country, police received a report on Wednesday afternoon of a man attempting to ignite vegetation in southern Jerusalem.

Lighter, cotton, and flammable materials found in his possession
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Oz police station in the Jerusalem District were dispatched to the scene and located the suspected arsonist. When the suspect spotted the officers, he attempted to flee. After a brief chase, he was apprehended.

A search of his belongings revealed a lighter, cotton, and additional flammable materials.

The suspect, a man in his 50s from Umm Tuba in East Jerusalem, was taken for questioning at the Oz police station. The investigation into his actions is ongoing.
