Last week, Lifshitz’s remains were returned from Hamas captivity and transferred to the The National Center of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir for the identification procedures. The Lifshitz family issued a statement: “We received with great sorrow the official and bitter news regarding the identification of the body of our beloved Oded. 503 torturous days of uncertainty have come to an end. We hoped and prayed that our ending would be different—when we could mourn for the husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who has been missing since October 7. Our family restoration will begin now and will not end until the last hostage returns.”

Oded, 85, one of the founders of kibbutz Nir Oz, was a grandfather to ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild—who was kidnapped from his home in the Kibbutz with his wife Yocheved, who was released in the hostage deal that took place in 2023.

The Hostages, Returnees, and Missing Persons Directorate at the Prime Minister’s Office expressed their condolences to the Lifshitz family and stated: “We bow our heads and send our condolences. We will continue to support the family. We pray for the swift return of all hostages home.”
