As the coming days are expected to bring rain and wintry weather, Jerusalem is gearing up for possible snowfall over the weekend. Beginning Monday evening, municipal teams will conduct frequent patrols throughout the city to identify and assist homeless individuals. The Jerusalem Municipality has prepared seven emergency shelters, one in each district, for those in need of refuge. Additionally, community emergency teams, social welfare staff, and volunteers will be mobilized to support vulnerable populations. For homeless individuals who decline relocation, the municipality will distribute blankets, sleeping bags, winter coats, warm clothing, and hot beverages, as well as direct them to local food centers offering hot meals.

Authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel on potentially icy roads. “During snowfall, residents should refrain from traveling unless absolutely necessary,” officials said. Drivers are advised to remain extra cautious, check the condition of their heating systems, ensure proper ventilation, and clear drainage openings near their homes.

City Deploys Snow Removal Crews and Heavy Machinery
To keep roads clear and maintain accessibility to key facilities, the city’s Operations Department will mobilize 140 heavy-duty vehicles to remove snow and ice from major roads. The fleet, managed by the Municipal Enforcement and Public Order Division, will focus on keeping primary traffic routes open, including roads leading to hospitals. Special snow-clearing equipment has also been prepared to ensure that Jerusalem’s light rail system remains operational. Additionally, teams will be scattering salt on roads to prevent the formation of ice and deploying special cranes to quickly remove fallen trees or debris from public spaces.

Mayor Moshe Lion: “The City is Ready for Snow and Ice”
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion reassured residents that the city is fully prepared for the anticipated winter weather. “The Jerusalem Municipality is fully equipped to handle snowfall and freezing conditions. Our dedicated emergency teams are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike,” he said.

Mayor Lion urged the public to stay safe: “We call on everyone to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary and to prioritize safety and well-being. Let’s all enjoy a safe, white, and beautiful weekend!”
