In a powerful act of protest and mourning, the family of Tzeela Gaz—murdered in last week’s terrorist shooting near Bruchin—has announced that they will relocate their traditional shivah (seven-day mourning period) from their home to the site of the attack. The move is aimed at protesting what they call “a policy of restraint” by the Israeli government in Judea and Samaria.
The family plans to arrive at the site at 5:00 PM (IST) today.
A Mourning Protest: “Enough with Containment”
The Gez family’s decision reflects growing criticism over Israeli security policy in the West Bank, particularly what some perceive as leniency toward hostile activity in Palestinian areas. In their statement, the family demanded more aggressive military action—specifically calling for a ground maneuver in the Palestinian village of Bruchin, similar to recent operations in Jenin and Tulkarm.
They argue that Israeli policy too often prioritizes Palestinian quality of life over the security of Israeli citizens.
Husband’s Public Call: “Come Sit With Us”
Chananel Gez, Tzeela’s husband, who was lightly wounded in the same attack that took her life, made an emotional appeal to the Israeli public: “My dear brothers and sisters, thank you for all the support and love we’ve received. We feel the embrace of the entire people of Israel during these difficult days.”
Chananel urged people to join the family at the scene of the attack in solidarity: “Today, we take an unusual step. Our whole family will sit shivah at the spot where my beloved wife was murdered. I call on all of Israel—everyone—to come and sit with us. To stand with us in protest against how easily a life can be taken.”
Treat Bruchin Like Jenin and Tulkarm
Chananel directed his message squarely at the government: “We demand that Bruchin be treated like Jenin and Tulkarm. Enough with prioritizing the enemy’s comfort over our lives. Thank you to everyone—we love you all!”
