Firefighters Renew the Fight, as Fire Breaks Out Again Near Jerusalem

A fire has broken out in the Karmit Forest near Jerusalem. Firefighters are working across several sectors with numerous teams and reinforcements. An evacuation order has been issued for the nearby Swedish Village.

Today (Monday), the central command and control center received a report of a brush fire that spread in a grove in the open area of Karmit Forest. Firefighters are currently working to extinguish the blaze, supported by reinforcements from nearby districts, firefighting aircraft, and a reconnaissance helicopter.

Evacuation Order
Due to the fire, police have ordered the closure of the Karmit Road to vehicle traffic. Eyal Caspi, Commissioner of Israel’s National Fire and Rescue Authority has arrived at the scene and is monitoring the situation.

Because of the fire’s intensity, it has been declared a fire emergency (makat esh), and an evacuation order has been issued for the nearby Swedish Village.

Fire and Rescue services reported that 35 firefighting teams, 8 aerial firefighting planes, and a reconnaissance helicopter are operating in three sectors: the Karmit Road sector, the Ein Kerem spring sector, and the Swedish Village currently undergoing evacuation, where the main effort is focused.

Kfir Company, operator of the light rail, announced that train operations have been halted due to the spreading fire near Jerusalem.

Efforts to extinguish the blaze are ongoing in an attempt to halt its spread and restore control.
