The Israel Prison Service (IPS) has recently adopted an unusual measure: posting photos of the widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip throughout Israeli prisons. The intent is to show terrorists—particularly Nukhba operatives who took part in the October 7 massacre—the scale of the consequences their actions brought upon Gaza’s residents. This was revealed by Northern District Commander Commissioner Shmulik Lavi in an interview with Israel Hayom.

“These images will be burned into their memory”
The images include photos of devastated neighborhoods, the ruins of civilian buildings, and other scenes showing the impact of the fighting on Gaza’s population. “This is a psychological move meant to drive home, in no uncertain terms, the consequences of October 7,” said Lavi. “We don’t kid ourselves into thinking it will spark any sense of responsibility or remorse. But these images—showing what happens to the enemies of Israel—will be burned into their memory.”

Shattering the ‘Hero’ Illusion
According to Lavi, the IPS views this move as part of a broader strategy to break down the “hero” persona and weaken identification with terrorist organizations among security prisoners. Supporters of the initiative see it as an important tool in the psychological war being waged against the terrorists.
