In a festive ceremony held today (Wednesday) in the northern village of Julis, an academic charter was signed between Ariel University and the Druze community in Israel. The charter is based on values of mutual respect, equality, partnership, and the pursuit of excellence. This initiative reinforces the social partnership between the community and academia, in recognition of the Druze community’s contributions to Israeli society and the state.

The charter includes several key points designed to encourage educational advancement and excellence among members of the Druze community:
- Promoting Higher Education: Encouraging the integration of Druze youth at all levels of education, research, and teaching.
- Dedicated Programs: Developing scholarships and tailored support initiatives for Druze students, including institutional adjustments for the Druze calendar and traditions.
- Community Excellence Initiatives: Collaborating with schools and nonprofit organizations in Druze towns.
- Heritage and Culture: Highlighting Druze heritage on campus through academic courses, seminars, and cultural activities.
- Druze Heritage Research Fund: Establishing a dedicated fund to support research into Druze culture and heritage.
- Joint Steering Committee: Creating a committee comprising university leadership, faculty, and Druze leaders to oversee implementation of the charter’s commitments.

The event was held in the presence of Sheikh Mowafak Tarif, the spiritual leader of the Druze community, along with community dignitaries, Ariel University President Professor Ehud Grossman, Rector Professor Albert Pinhasov, the university’s CEO, members of the administration, deans, and academic and administrative staff.
Professor Ehud Grossman, President of Ariel University, remarked: “This charter reflects our deep and warm connection with the Druze community, a values-driven and contributing community.” He added, “We are committed to providing our Druze students with an environment that respects them and equips them with real tools for success.”
Sheikh Mowafak Tarif emphasized the importance of this partnership, saying, “Academia is a social melting pot.” He noted that “the signing of the charter will serve as a serious boost for the Druze community and will strengthen its status in Israeli society.”
