While talks for a hostage release deal continue on the diplomatic front, the IDF is intensifying pressure on Hamas on the ground. Dozens of terrorists were eliminated, around 100 terror targets were destroyed, and one of the largest underground infrastructures found so far was uncovered—approximately 30 meters deep and about 700 meters long.

In one documented operation, soldiers from the brigade identified three terrorists dragging explosives in an attempt to rig the area with IEDs. A rapid target acquisition led to a precise airstrike, in a coordinated effort between ground forces and the Air Force. Additionally, Yahalom combat engineers worked to destroy the exposed tunnel, which was used for terrorist activities deep inside the Gaza Strip.

The ground operations are being conducted alongside what a senior security official described as a “unique window of opportunity” to advance a deal—amid the heavy pressure on Hamas and growing public sentiment against the terror organization within Gaza.

A combination of internal friction within Hamas’s leadership, loss of control on the ground, and the removal of humanitarian aid oversight from the organization has created a new reality—where the IDF is intensifying its activities, while still leaving room for potential agreements.

The IDF emphasizes that fighting in Gaza continues and that forces are acting to prevent Hamas from regaining the ability to threaten Israeli civilians.
