Around 100 members of bereaved families came together to celebrate the Passover Seder in an intimate and heartfelt gathering at a Jerusalem hotel. The event was designed to help families navigate one of the most emotionally charged holidays of the year—in the shadow of profound loss.

“The children feel like they belong—not alone”
The Seder was led by Rabbi Yoav Oknin, former chief rabbi of Central Command, and among the attendees was former Jewish Agency chairman Natan Sharansky. The families, who spent both Shabbat and the holiday together at the hotel, shared festive meals, participated in the Seder, and engaged in activities for children and teens—all in a supportive space filled with empathy, closeness, and listening ears.

Yasmin Ohayon, who lost her son Evyatar z”l on October 7, shared: “For me, this Seder was a lifeline. These events are always handled with such sensitivity. The children feel like part of a group—not alone.”

“Only here can we breathe”
Sarit Ohayon, who lost both her husband and son during the battle in Ofakim, added: “This isn’t the ideal Seder, but in a situation like this—it’s truly a rescue. Only here can we breathe.”

The event was organized by One Family, Israel’s national organization for supporting bereaved families, victims of terrorism, and survivors of hostile acts. For over two decades, One Family has provided a holistic support system, offering emotional, financial, and social assistance. Since October 7, the organization has significantly expanded its operations to reach every bereaved family in Israel.
