If you’ve just landed in Israel or are planning your move—welcome! But be advised: the weather today (Tuesday) is throwing in a bit of desert drama. A thick haze has rolled in, and with it, air pollution levels are expected to spike—especially in the south, in regions like the Negev and Arava. The source? A desert low-pressure system pulling fine dust from across the Egyptian border.

Officials are calling the pollution levels in some areas extreme and potentially hazardous. This is a rare event, but it’s something to keep in mind as you adjust to life in the region.

Who Should Be Cautious—and When?
The Ministry of Health recommends that people with heart or lung conditions, older adults, pregnant women, and young children avoid any intense physical activity outdoors until evening. If you’re healthy, it’s still wise to take it easy until the air clears. Thankfully, improvement is expected by nightfall.

What’s Ahead This Week?
The good news: relief is on the way. Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a noticeable drop in temperatures—still a bit warmer than average for this time of year. Winds will pick up in the south, and some light haze or even a drizzle might linger.

Thursday brings a cooler turn, with temperatures dipping below the seasonal norm and a chance of light local rain, especially in northern Israel. Expect brisk winds as well. The trend continues into Friday, making it a great time to pull out a light jacket and enjoy Israel’s winter-to-spring charm.

Whether you’re here long-term or just arrived, staying informed is the best way to enjoy all that Israel has to offer—dust storms included.
