A significant meeting took place yesterday (Monday) in the United States between Israel’s Minister of Education, Yoav Kisch, and Columbia University’s Interim President Dr. Katrina Armstrong. The two leaders agreed to advance efforts to combat antisemitism on university campuses.
Both Minister Kisch and President Armstrong emphasized the need for a firm stance against antisemitism at the university and stressed the importance of ensuring that academic institutions do not foster a hostile or toxic environment for Jewish students. President Armstrong reaffirmed her commitment to addressing the issue, noting that Columbia University has already taken substantial steps to tackle the problem. Recently, the University Senate passed a resolution to combat antisemitism, stating: “The University Senate reaffirms its commitment to combating antisemitism and hate in all its forms and to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all members of our community”.
Minister Kisch stated: “The fight against antisemitism on campuses is essential, and I am pleased to see that Columbia University’s President Dr. Armstrong is dedicated to this cause and is taking decisive action to eradicate its manifestations. This is an important step, and I hope other universities follow suit, and take responsibility for ensuring a safe environment for Jewish and Israeli students and faculty.”
