In a moving ceremony held last weekend at the Magen David Adom (MDA) station in Mishmar HaSharon, 28 new emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and ambulance drivers from the Emek Hefer Regional Council were certified as volunteers. Among the graduates was Assi Gavze-Ra’uvin, who experienced a life-changing event two years ago when her husband was saved from cardiac arrest thanks to an MDA team that arrived on time and performed advanced resuscitation techniques.
A Feeling of Closure
“I feel like I’ve come full circle,” Gavze-Ra’uvin shared. “It’s always been my dream to volunteer with MDA, and after witnessing how the knowledge of the team that treated my husband saved his life, I knew without a doubt that becoming an EMT was something I had to do,” she said.

A Force Multiplier for Saving Lives

Galit Shaul, Head of the Emek Hefer Regional Council, praised the new EMTs: “Especially in these challenging times, the ability to provide rapid and enhanced responses to urgent emergencies means truly saving lives. I want to thank each and every one of you for your dedication to volunteering and life-saving work. I hope our EMTs and drivers will have as little work as possible.”
The new EMTs will be equipped with advanced resuscitation kits, enabling them to provide medical care outside their shifts as part of MDA’s rapid response system. According to Yossi Rakah, director of the Sharon region at MDA, the addition of new EMTs to the region and the rapid response system acts as a “force multiplier for the regional council and surrounding areas, helping save countless lives in the Sharon region.”
