The first JNS International Policy Summit opened yesterday at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Jerusalem. The two-day conference is hosting decision-makers who influence Israel’s future and its role on the global stage. Minister Ron Dermer, who is overseeing the hostage negotiations on behalf of the government, participated today (Monday) and made several significant remarks.
Trump Expected to Avoid a Bad Deal with Iran
Addressing the Iranian nuclear threat, Dermer expressed confidence that U.S. President Donald Trump would avoid entering into a bad agreement with Iran, just as he had done previously. He emphasized that Trump had made it clear that any new agreement would not allow Iran to maintain a nuclear infrastructure.

Speaking about the fall of the Assad regime and the change in leadership in Syria, Dermer noted that Israel had not anticipated Assad’s downfall, adding that even Assad himself had not foreseen it. He pointed out that while the new Syrian leadership presents many challenges, one problem had been resolved—the transfer of weapons from Iran had been halted.

The War Expected to End Within 12 Months
Discussing the ongoing Swords of Iron War, which began on October 7 and continues primarily in the Gaza Strip, Dermer predicted that within 12 months, the war on seven fronts would end with Israel achieving victory. He added that following victory, many new peace agreements could be expected, as numerous countries are interested in establishing ties with Israel. He emphasized that achieving victory remains the key to securing lasting peace.
