In an interview with Politico, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar made it clear that Israel does not exclude the possibility of military action to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.  He warned that Iran has already enriched enough uranium for several bombs and is actively seeking ways to weaponize it.

While stressing that Israel prefers a diplomatic resolution, Sa’ar admitted the chances of success remain low. He described the failure to prevent Iran’s nuclear capability as a “catastrophe for Israel’s security.”

Israel May Take Military Action – With Trump’s Support

The interview reflects growing sentiment in Israel that the window of opportunity for action against Iran is closing. Sa’ar stated that in order to stop Iran’s nuclear program before it becomes operational, a credible military option must remain on the table, and emphasized the importance of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s support. According to Sa’ar, failure to act could trigger a nuclear arms race in the region, with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey all seeking to develop nuclear capabilities in response.

Politico noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to complete the mission of preventing Iran from attaining nuclear weapons, with the expectation that Trump will provide strong backing. However, Trump has expressed a preference for striking a deal with Iran rather than launching a massive bombing campaign.

Meanwhile, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz clarified that “all options remain on the table” and that the United States will not settle for anything less than the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran Smuggling Weapons to the West Bank – Israel Increases Vigilance

Sa’ar also warned that, beyond the nuclear threat, Iran is escalating efforts to destabilize the West Bank by smuggling weapons and funds across the Jordanian border.  He stated that Israel is facing a widespread Iranian attempt to infiltrate weapons and money to incite violence.

Israel Strengthens Ties with the European Union

Sa’ar participated in a diplomatic conference in Brussels, where he met with senior EU officials, including Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas. He described the discussions as “honest and constructive”, contrasting them with those under his predecessor, Josep Borrell, whom he accused of being “hostile and one-sided.”

Meanwhile, Israel continues to sever ties with highly critical nations, such as Ireland, due to their harsh stance against IDF operations in Gaza.  Sa’ar explained that Israel is focusing their diplomatic resources on countries with greater potential for positive relations, such as Moldova.

Additionally, Israel is negotiating its stance toward Syria in the wake of the Assad regime’s downfall, but Sa’ar warned against a hasty re-engagement, cautioning that “the situation could quickly spiral back into severe violence.”
