Five days after a targeted Israeli strike near the European Hospital in Khan Younis, Saudi news outlet Al-Hadath reported Monday morning that the body of Mohammad Sinwar, a senior Hamas military commander, has been found in a tunnel along with the remains of ten aides.

Israel has not yet confirmed the report, and there is no official verification of the details at this time.

Mass Casualty Strike on Hamas Leadership
According to the report, Sinwar’s body was discovered in an underground tunnel in Khan Younis, alongside other senior Hamas figures. Among the dead is reportedly Mohammad Shaba’aneh, commander of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade, considered one of the organization’s highest-ranking officers.

A Severe Blow to Hamas Command Structure
The reported death of Sinwar follows weeks of Israeli intelligence gathering and precision strikes targeting Hamas leadership in southern Gaza. If confirmed, the elimination of Sinwar would mark a major disruption to Hamas’s chain of command, potentially hampering its ability to plan and carry out further operations.

Who Was Mohammad Sinwar?
Mohammad Sinwar rose to prominence as one of Hamas’s most critical field commanders during the recent war in Gaza. He assumed leadership of military operations following the death of his brother, Yahya Sinwar, in an Israeli strike in October 2024.

As head of the Khan Younis Brigade, he played a central role in planning and coordinating Hamas’s armed resistance against Israel.
