The traditional March of the Living set out today (Thursday) from Auschwitz to Birkenau. This year, 8,000 people are expected to participate, including Holocaust survivors, survivors of the October 7 massacre, former hostages with their families, and bereaved families.

Lali Deri, mother of the fallen Staff Sergeant Saadia Yaakov Deri, addressed the National-Civil Service volunteers taking part in the march:
“Your highest mission is to command life. You’ve been given the privilege of serving the State of Israel through National-Civil Service. That’s an incredible privilege—infuse it with great meaning, because that’s what Saadia did in everything he did. The very fact that you chose to serve already says so much about who you are.”
