The US Lifts Restrictions on Israel’s Fight in Gaza

The Trump administration has canceled the directive imposed by the Biden administration after the war broke out in Gaza, ostensibly to ensure that U.S. weapons are used by allies in compliance with international law.

According to reports published in The Washington Post this morning (Tuesday), the Trump administration has canceled the directive imposed by the previous administration under Biden in response to Israel’s war on Hamas in Gaza. The directive was meant to ensure that the use of American weapons by allied nations would not violate international law, but could easily be abused to hamper Israel’s efforts to rescue its hostages and eliminate the threat from Hamas.

The revoked directive was enforced last year by former U.S. President Joe Biden, who likely imposed it to counter criticism in the United States regarding support for Israel in the “Swords of Iron” war.

Support for Israel and the War on Terror
This decision is part of a series of Trump administration policies in favor of Israel regarding the fight in the Gaza Strip. About a week ago, U.S. President Donald Trump decided to halt funding for the Palestinian Authority’s security apparatus, following ongoing criticism that the PA paid salaries to security prisoners who were killed in attacks or served long prison sentences. About a month ago, the White House directed the U.S. Department of Defense to lift the freeze imposed by the Biden administration on the supply of one-ton bombs to Israel.
