The Party’s Over as Illegal Event Hall Meets Its End

Following a prolonged struggle and a petition submitted to the state, security forces have demolished a large, unauthorized event complex that was built near a major roadway between eastern Gush Etzion and Jerusalem.

A luxurious events venue was demolished yesterday (Tuesday) by security forces in Gush Etzion, following a petition filed nearly a year ago by the Regavim Movement and the Gush Etzion Regional Council opposing its illegal construction.

The forces, which included the Civil Administration’s Enforcement Unit accompanied by the IDF, dismantled the complex that had been built without a permit adjacent to Route 397, between eastern Gush Etzion and Jerusalem. The structure posed both a safety risk and a flashpoint for civilian-security friction.

A sprawling complex built on state land
Development work at the site was first observed in 2021. A lavish event garden was constructed there, featuring lawns, a fountain, a swimming pool, and a restaurant. Its sensitive location—along a central highway and within an area subject to a military construction ban—raised serious concerns for the safety of passing motorists.

Despite warnings from Regavim and the regional council about the illegal construction, no action was initially taken. In 2022, the organizations filed a formal petition with the state. During a court hearing in May 2024, the state committed to acting based on professional assessments. Nevertheless, the complex continued operating until it was finally torn down yesterday.

“Governance is returning to the area”
Roi Drucker, Regavim’s Judea and Samaria Coordinator, said: “The wheels of the law grind slowly, but at least this time they didn’t wait for a horrific murder in order to act.”

He added that the demolition of such a prominent and luxurious venue is “very significant in terms of deterrence.”

Yaron Rosenthal, head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council, also commented on the demolition: “We are working to remove illegal construction from near roads and communities,” he said, adding, “This is part of the ongoing effort to maintain order and security in the region.”
