Survivor’s Journey: From Gaza’s Tunnels to the Holiness of the Western Wall

Last night (Thursday), Sasha Troufanov, who was recently released after 498 days in Hamas captivity in Gaza, visited the Western Wall for the first time—a place that symbolized hope for him throughout his time in captivity. Accompanied by his partner, Sapir Cohen, who was freed in the first hostage deal after 55 days in captivity, the two stood before the ancient stones, deeply moved, and recited an emotional prayer of gratitude.

Continue to Be Grateful for What You Have
During his visit, Sasha shared: “I came here, to the Western Wall, to give thanks and take part in a deeply emotional tour. I visited the Western Wall tunnels after spending so long in the dark tunnels of Gaza. Here, I felt the holiness and heard about all the prayers that were recited on my behalf. Continue to be grateful for what you have and to pray for the hostages who are still there. The Western Wall is a remnant of something great—a living testament that even when everything seems broken and destroyed, it is possible to rebuild and renew. I am grateful to everyone who prayed for me and ask the people of Israel to continue preserving unity and unconditional love.”

From Hamas Tunnels to the Western Wall Tunnels
Sasha and Sapir toured the Western Wall tunnels, where a special “Mizmor L’Todah” (Psalm of Thanksgiving) prayer was recited in honor of their return from Hamas captivity. The prayer was also dedicated to the swift return of the remaining hostages.
