The State Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment today (Friday) in the Kfar Saba Magistrate’s Court against Adam Sarsour (29), an Israeli Arab from Kafr Qassem. He is charged with membership in the ISIS terrorist organization. The Shin Bet and the Israel Police’s Northern District Central Unit also arrested two residents of Deir al-Asad who were planning a vehicular attack inspired by ISIS. Indictments were filed against those two men as well, yesterday.

Flew to Turkey, Attempted to Cross into Syria
The indictment was submitted by Attorney Adi Fayneh Yossefi of the Central District Prosecutor’s Office. According to the document, “The defendant, an Israeli citizen, began consuming brutal content produced by the ISIS terrorist organization as early as a decade ago, through Facebook and other websites. At that point, he resolved to join the organization.” To that end, he flew to Turkey and tried to cross the border into Syria, but was unsuccessful.

According to the indictment, Sarsour pledged allegiance to ISIS through the organization’s website. He joined with the intention of committing to its laws. As part of his activity for ISIS, during the “Operation Might and Sword” war, Sarsour continued to consume and distribute dozens of extremely violent and brutal videos affiliated with the Islamic State and containing terrorist content. He shared these, among other platforms, via WhatsApp—until his arrest.

“He Has Maintained an Extreme Religious-Ideological Worldview for Years”
In its detention request, the prosecution noted that the defendant’s actions demonstrate “his exceptional danger to both public and national security. As an Israeli citizen, he adheres to an extreme religious-ideological worldview aligned with a particularly brutal and murderous terrorist organization, and is a member of that organization.”
