During his visit to Israel, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Yad Vashem today (Sunday), accompanied by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan respectfully presented Secretary Rubio with the names of Sa’ar’s family members who perished in the Holocaust, and Sa’ar reflected on the deep connection between the events of the Holocaust and the days following October 7th.

“We are living in a time when the ancient, primal desire to annihilate the Jewish people has resurfaced and turned into a concrete plan of action by our enemies. We are living in an era where antisemitism is rising and sweeping the world—and it has only been 80 years since the Holocaust. Its survivors still walk among us.”

Leadership of Moral Strength
The minister expressed his belief that U.S. global leadership will succeed in its fight against antisemitism, stating: “It carries unwavering moral authority when it leads the fight against antisemitism. You raised this banner in the earliest days of the current administration, under President Trump,” he said.

Determined to Fight for Our Existence in Our Homeland
Sa’ar also addressed the threats from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and praised U.S. efforts to support Israel: “We are determined to fight for our existence in our ancestral homeland — if only the sword is not taken from our hands. The combination of withholding arms supplies while launching a legal assault on our right to self-defense is extremely dangerous. We have no better friends than you, the United States of America, in our journey to secure our national existence here for generations to come. And I believe you have no better allies in your mission to defend American values and interests.”
