A large-scale enlistment is taking place today (Monday) into the IDF through special tracks designated for the Haredi community (ultra Orthodox). It is expected to mark the largest enlistment of Haredim ever recorded in Israel.
According to estimates, about 500 candidates for military service are expected to arrive at the recruitment offices, with most reporting voluntarily and a smaller portion arriving as a result of enforcement actions.
The IDF notes a significant change: for the first time, there is a visible trend of Haredim enlisting in organized groups, including graduates from Lithuanian yeshivas and members of major Hasidic sects.

The Target Is Still Far Off but There Is Progress
Despite the increase in enlistment numbers, they are still far from the goal set — 4,800 Haredi recruits per year. Estimates suggest that by the end of 2025, the number of enlisted Haredim will reach about 2,500.
This represents a significant rise compared to the past but still falls short of meeting the IDF’s needs, especially given the shortage of thousands of soldiers, mainly for combat roles.

“Encouraging Voluntary Enlistment Alongside Moderate Enforcement Measures”
The IDF emphasizes that efforts to integrate Haredim continue through various means — both encouraging voluntary enlistment and applying moderate enforcement measures.
Despite the challenges, there is a noticeable shift within parts of the Haredi community, particularly among young people seeking to combine a religious and Haredi lifestyle with contributing to and serving the state.
At the same time, protests by extremist factions, mainly from the Jerusalem Faction and Neturei Karta, are expected near the recruitment offices in Jerusalem, Tel HaShomer, and Be’er Sheva.
The police are preparing to maintain public order with reinforced forces and have published a list of road closures in the Tel HaShomer area.
