During his visit to Israel today (Sunday),German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul , expressed clear reservations about unilateral initiatives to recognize a Palestinian state following French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent statements. Wadephul stressed that Germany supports a diplomatic framework grounded in stability and security for both sides—not unilateral moves that could undermine the prospects for peace.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar commended him: “I see your decision to visit Israel on your first official trip outside Europe as a sign of the strategic partnership between our countries. We consider Chancellor Friedrich Merz and you, Minister, to be true friends of the State of Israel”.
Honored to host @JoWadephul in Israel, on his first international visit outside Europe as Germany’s Foreign Minister. It is 60 years since diplomatic relations were formed between our nations. I look forward to further strengthening our strategic relationship and working closely… pic.twitter.com/u0kpoYsBp9

A Warning Against Unilateral Moves
Sa’ar took the opportunity to deliver a firm, direct message regarding unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. “There is talk of a unilateral initiative to recognize a ‘Palestinian state.’ These kinds of moves are destructive. They would only reward Hamas terrorism and damage the chances of advancing a future bilateral process”.
“Any attempt to proceed unilaterally will compel us to respond with unilateral measures of our own,” Sa’ar warned.
Sa’ar also addressed the situation in Gaza and the humanitarian aid plan proposed by the Trump Administration: “Hamas bears sole responsibility for the war and for its prolongment. If aid continues to flow to Hamas rather than to Gaza’s civilians, the war will never end. Israel fully supports the Trump Administration’s proposal to transfer aid directly to the population while preventing Hamas from controlling it.”
In another statement, Sa’ar warned about Iran’s growing threat: “Iran is the most dangerous country in the world. Its extremist regime spreads terror through its proxies—Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities must be dismantled. We must prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.”
