Mike Lynch, a tech entrepreneur and businessman, was connected to the intelligence agencies of the UK and the U.S. His wife, Angela Lynch, who survived the sinking, had previously served as an advisor to British Prime Ministers on matters of science, technology, and cybersecurity. Lynch’s cybersecurity company, Darktrace, was recently sold to a private American firm.
The ship, submerged 50 meters below sea level, is believed to contain two highly encrypted hard drives. These may hold passwords to classified accounts and other sensitive intelligence data. A race is now underway to retrieve the secret information and prevent it from falling into hostile hands.
Initially, there were concerns about criminals trying to steal jewelry and valuable property from the ship. However, fears have since grown about divers from countries like Russia or China who may attempt to obtain the intelligence data. As a result, a request to increase security in the area of the wreck has been approved.
