Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took off today (Sunday) from Budapest en route to Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, following a diplomatic visit to Hungary that he described as “especially important.” According to Netanyahu, the visit resulted in a historic achievement: Hungary’s official announcement of its withdrawal from the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
“Hungary is the first country to withdraw — and that’s a sign of what’s to come”
“Hungary is a great friend of Israel. It defends us in the European Union, at the United Nations, and no less importantly—at the corrupt International Court in The Hague,” Netanyahu said before takeoff. “This court targets all of us—IDF soldiers, IDF commanders, and the State of Israel. It tries to deny us our right to self-defense. Hungary is the first country to withdraw—and that’s a sign of what’s to come.”
The prime minister noted that his visit also included discussions on joint weapons production, as part of Israel’s preparation for the ongoing war. “We need these tools to achieve full victory in the war on seven fronts,” he said.
“I’m the first foreign leader to meet with President Trump”
Netanyahu also referred to his upcoming meeting with Trump in Washington: “I’m the first foreign leader to meet with President Trump since the implementation of the tariff regime—and this is very important for Israel’s economy. There are many leaders eager for such a meeting, and the relationship between us—both personal and national—remains crucial at this time.”
He concluded with a message for the families of the hostages: “We are working, even at this very moment, to bring them home. We will not give up. With God’s help, we will act—and we will succeed.”
Trump’s Global Tariff Regime
President Trump recently introduced a new global tariff framework, which includes restrictions on imports from Israel. Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet with him since the announcement. The meeting is expected to focus on the economic implications of the new policy and ways to minimize its potential impact on Israel.
