In light of reported progress in hostage negotiations, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a special meeting Tuesday evening with Defense Minister Israel Katz, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, and members of the negotiation team. The meeting focused on receiving updates on the proposed deal for the release of hostages and determining next steps.
Significant Progress on Hostage Deal
Earlier in the day, Netanyahu posted a video message on social media about ongoing efforts to secure a hostage deal. “There has been significant progress. I think it’s too early to raise hopes, but we are working around the clock—constantly. I hope we can move forward,” the prime minister said.
The Hostages’ Families Forum responded to Netanyahu’s remarks with cautious criticism: “At this hour, when the Prime Minister is once again providing updates through the media about ‘significant progress’ in the negotiations, we remind him: there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. A comprehensive agreement is already on the table. The Prime Minister could sign it tomorrow morning—if he chooses to.”
The statement continued: “The vast majority of the Israeli public wants a deal that brings everyone home—55 hostages, men and women alike—even if it means a ceasefire. No cherry-picking, no cruel categories, no blood distinctions.”
“The families are tired of spin and illusions. They long for real news and hope the Prime Minister will find the courage to choose the only path that can secure an Israeli victory and national renewal.”
