Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the latest IDF operations in Gaza on Wednesday night, confirming that Israel has escalated its military campaign. “Tonight in Gaza, we shifted gears. The IDF is taking ground, striking terrorists, and destroying infrastructure,” he declared.
A New Philadelphi Corridor
At the center of Netanyahu’s remarks was a new strategic axis the IDF is working to secure—known as the Morag Route. “We are doing something additional—we are taking the Morag Corridor. This will be the second Philadelphi, the additional Philadelphi Route,” he emphasized.
Netanyahu Stresses Strategy of Gaza Partitioning
“We are now segmenting the Gaza Strip,” Netanyahu continued. “We are steadily increasing the pressure, step by step, until they return our hostages. The more they refuse, the greater the pressure will become—until they give in.”
“We are determined to achieve the war’s objectives,” he added. “We are acting tirelessly, with a clear direction and a clear mission. And with God’s help, and with the help of our heroic soldiers—we will achieve it.”
The Strategic Importance of the Morag Route
The Morag Route is a key roadway in southern Gaza, separating Khan Younis from Rafah. It is named after the former Israeli community of Morag, which was located in the area during the Gush Katif era. Securing this corridor enables Israel to effectively split the southern part of the Gaza Strip, restricting the movement of Hamas forces between two major strongholds.
Netanyahu referred to this route as “Philadelphi B,” in reference to the original Philadelphi Route—a strategic military road running along the Gaza-Egypt border, once used extensively for weapons smuggling through tunnels. Gaining control of both the Morag and Philadelphi corridors gives the IDF a significant tactical advantage and bolsters Israel’s leverage against Hamas—both militarily and in negotiations for the return of hostages.
IDF Chief of Staff: “Only the Release of the Hostages Will Stop Us”
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and ISA (Shin Bet) Director Ronen Bar conducted a field tour and strategic assessment today with division commanders in the Tel al-Sultan area of the Gaza Strip. During the visit, Zamir emphasized:
“IDF forces, led by Southern Command, are expanding the offensive in Operation ‘Iron Swords.’ The operation will continue and intensify at the pace we’ve determined. The only thing that can halt our further advance is the release of our hostages.”
The Chief of Staff emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation and added:
“We will maintain operational ambiguity and the fog of war—the ground will speak for itself. The release of the hostages will allow our forces to return to initial positions and enable the continuation of negotiations.”
