Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met this evening (Sunday) with ISA (Shin Bet) Director Ronen Bar and informed him that he will present a government proposal this week to end his tenure. In a statement released tonight, the Prime Minister said: “Citizens of Israel, we are in the midst of a war for our very existence – a war on seven fronts. At all times, but especially in an existential war like this, the Prime Minister must have full confidence in the head of the Shin Bet. Unfortunately, the opposite is true – I do not have that confidence.”
“A Growing Lack of Trust”
“I have had a continuous lack of confidence in the head of the Shin Bet, a distrust that has only deepened over time. Because of this ongoing lack of trust, I have decided to bring a government proposal this week to conclude his tenure as head of the Shin Bet. And let me be clear – I have great appreciation for the men and women of the Shin Bet. They perform dedicated and vital work for the security of us all. As Prime Minister I am responsible for the Shin Bet, and I am certain that this step is necessary to rehabilitate the organization, achieve all our war objectives, and prevent the next disaster,” he added.
