Mossad Trolls Tehran in Persian: “Qa’ani Is Not Our Spy”

A cryptic tweet from the “Mossad in Persian” account set social media ablaze by stating simply: “Qa’ani is not our spy”, adding to the maelstrom of conspiracy theories surrounding the senior official who managed to not get hit in an Israeli strike.

A sharp, five-word tweet sparked an online frenzy in both Iran and Israel. Posted Monday on the X account of “Mossad in Persian,” it read: “Qa’ani is not our spy” — a message that triggered waves of interpretations, jokes, and renewed suspicions surrounding Esmail Qa’ani, commander of Iran’s Quds Force.

Why Now?
During the war with Iran, Israel announced Qa’ani had been eliminated, yet he later appeared at victory celebrations in Iran. The tweet, written in Persian, appears to respond to a flood of rumors that have dominated conversation in Tehran: has Qa’ani — considered the de facto heir to Khamenei — actually been operating for Israel? These rumors followed his mysterious disappearance after a reported injury near the Lebanon border.

“Denial Is Also Confession”
The tweet quickly spread across social media, particularly on Persian-language platforms. One user commented, “If you’re denying it, it must be true.” Another asked, “So who is the real spy?” Others speculated it was a sophisticated psychological operation aimed at undermining Qa’ani’s standing within Iran — possibly even among regime insiders.

Covert or Overt Message?
Whether it’s a direct message or veiled psy-op, the episode highlights how intelligence and media entities are increasingly using open, public profiles not just for intelligence gathering — but for psychological influence.

What’s Next?
Israel traditionally avoids responding to speculation about senior-level spies. But this deliberate and ironically timed public denial seems aimed at disrupting internal Iranian narratives. Even if Qa’ani isn’t truly a spy, simply casting doubt may be enough to shake his position in a deeply paranoid regime.
