The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced this morning (Monday) that Master Sergeant (Res.) Dejen Daniel Sahalo, 41, from Rehovot, a heavy engineering combat soldier in the 5067th Engineering Battalion of the Combat Engineering Corps, was killed in an operational vehicle accident in the Gaza Envelope. His family has been notified.
The accident occurred yesterday when a truck operating near the Gaza border, close to Nahal Oz, overturned. The truck was carrying construction materials and was intended to enter the Gaza Strip. Reserve forces from the 16th Infantry Brigade are currently active in the area, working to expand the buffer zone in the northern part of the Strip. The IDF is investigating the incident.

Second Fatal Accident in Less Than a Week
This is the second fatal military vehicle accident involving an IDF soldier within the past week. At the end of last week, Sergeant Niv Dayag, 19, from Ramat HaSharon, a soldier in the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade, was killed in a vehicle accident during an operational activity in the Golan Heights.

The accident that claimed Niv’s life occurred on Thursday evening at Eliad Junction in the southern Golan, near Ramat Magshimim. The Hummer jeep carrying the soldiers struck a guardrail, overturned, and caught fire. Two soldiers from the 890th Battalion and one from the Golan Formation (474th Brigade) were lightly injured. All were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.
