After 33 years of diplomatic relations, Israel will soon begin exporting fresh produce to Azerbaijan—a historic move expected to boost the economy and expand bilateral cooperation.

For the first time since diplomatic ties were established 33 years ago, Israel is set to begin exporting fresh agricultural produce to Azerbaijan. The first shipments will include mangoes, avocados, and peppers—destined for Azerbaijan’s population of roughly ten million.

This significant step was made possible thanks to a proactive initiative by the Plant Protection and Inspection Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, which regularly explores new opportunities to open export markets for Israeli produce. After coordination and review processes with Azerbaijani authorities, official approval was granted for the export of the initial three crops.

Opening the Market
The agricultural export deal adds to the ongoing cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan in areas such as economics, science, and strategic affairs. The move is viewed as another meaningful milestone in the deepening relationship between the two countries.

The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized: “Strengthening the export of Israeli agricultural produce contributes to national food security by solidifying Israel’s position as a global leader in production.” The ministry also noted that exports help reduce dependence on foreign markets. “For farmers in the Gaza Envelope, the Galilee, and the Arava, this presents a real opportunity to expand operations and help rebuild regions impacted by the war.”

The mango, avocado, and pepper shipments will be required to meet Azerbaijan’s phytosanitary import regulations and will include the appropriate health certificates. The Agriculture Ministry expects that this market opening will pave the way for additional Israeli crops to be exported in the near future.
