The Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place in Switzerland this year from May 18 to May 25, will draw thousands of international visitors—and many Israelis plan to travel abroad to attend the event. However, due to its high media visibility, there is a risk that hostile countries and terrorist organizations may exploit the event to carry out threats or violent protests. In light of these concerns, Israel’s National Security Council (NSC) issued updated guidance today (Thursday) for Israelis staying in Switzerland during the contest.
The NSC urged heightened caution, warning that actors such as Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, and global jihadist groups may seek to target participants.
Protests in Switzerland
Since the start of the “Operation Swords of Iron” war, there has been a surge in global terror threats, and dozens of plots against Israelis abroad have been foiled. Over the past year, Switzerland has seen around 360 anti-Israel protests, some of which turned violent. It is feared that during the Eurovision, protests targeting Israelis or the Israeli delegation may intensify.

The NSC advises Israelis to avoid flashpoints and demonstrations, even seemingly peaceful ones, as there is a risk of escalation and infiltration by terror supporters or lone attackers.

Updated instructions from the Israeli Foreign Ministry for tourists participating in Eurovision events:
- Avoid attending large events visibly associated with Israel, especially if not officially secured.
- Keep away from protests and demonstrations, even if they appear calm.
- Follow instructions from local security forces and report any suspicious or hostile activity.
- Familiarize yourself in advance with local emergency numbers and the contact info of the Israeli consulate.
- Stay vigilant at all times: do not post your real-time location or travel plans on social media.
- Refrain from displaying visible Israeli or Jewish symbols in public spaces.
- Avoid sharing personal details or past military service information on social media.
Stay Alert
The NSC stresses that vigilance and extra caution are key to ensuring personal safety during travel. “The goal is to enjoy an exciting cultural event while maintaining personal security,” the council said. The NSC recommends Israeli travelers in Switzerland download the Home Front Command app to receive real-time alerts and updates.
