Targeted Strike on a Known Tunnel
IAF fighter jets struck an underground tunnel in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley area on Sunday evening. This tunnel, which crosses from Syrian territory into Lebanon, had been used by the Hezbollah terror organization for the transportation of weaponry.
The tunnel had previously been targeted by the IDF, and the recent strike aimed to prevent its reconstruction. IAF planes also attacked several Hezbollah sites in Lebanese territory containing weapons and rocket launchers that posed an immediate threat from the terror organization.
IDF Statement: Maintaining Security Agreements
An IDF spokesperson stated, “The targets that were attacked violated the understandings between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF continues to operate to eliminate any threat to the State of Israel in accordance with the understandings between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF is determined to uphold these understandings to prevent the re-establishment and retrenchment of the Hezbollah terror organization.”
IDF Continues Efforts to Combat Terrorism
Last week, IDF forces eliminated several Hezbollah operatives in southern Lebanon, neutralizing immediate threats to IDF troops and residents near the border. The IDF also identified and detained additional suspects who posed a potential threat to the forces.
This ongoing activity aims to preserve operational achievements, keep threats away from the northern border, and send a message both to the Hezbollah terror organization and to Israeli citizens. The IDF also reported that combat teams from the 769th and 7th Brigades are conducting scans in the area for further clearance operations.
