Israel Unites to Remember the Fallen: Memorial Day 2025

The official candle lighting ceremony, marking the beginning of Memorial Day events for Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror, will be held this evening (Tuesday) at the Western Wall Plaza in Jerusalem. The ceremony will commence immediately after a one-minute siren sounds at 8:00 PM across the country.

President Isaac Herzog, Defense Minister Israel Katz, and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir are scheduled to deliver addresses.

The Official Ceremony – Candle Lighting at the Western Wall – 5785

Tuesday Evening’s Event Schedule

At 9:00 PM, a ceremony of remembrance for the fallen will take place with the participation of the heads of state at the Knesset Plaza.

At 9:15 PM, the state memorial event “Songs in Their Memory” will be held in the Chagall Lounge at the Knesset, attended by the President, Prime Minister, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Wednesday’s Event Schedule

8:30 AM – Reading of the names of the fallen at the Hall of Remembrance.

11:00 AM – Following a two-minute siren, the official state memorial ceremony for Israel’s fallen soldiers will be held, with the President, Prime Minister, and senior judiciary officials in attendance.

1:00 PM – A ceremony honoring the victims of terror attacks, attended by state leaders.

7:45 PM – The traditional torch-lighting ceremony at Mount Herzl, marking the conclusion of Memorial Day and the beginning of Israel’s 77th Independence Day celebrations.

Commemorating the Nova Festival Victims
Earlier today (Tuesday), a Memorial Day ceremony was held at Yad LaBanim in Jerusalem, with the participation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, and Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion.

At 5:00 PM, a memorial event for the Nova Tribe community took place, commemorating those murdered during the party near Kibbutz Re’im on October 7, 2023. At 5:15 PM, a remembrance candle was lit in the Knesset by Speaker Ohana, together with the family of Sergeant Tomer Keren z”l, who fell in battle in the north.

At 6:30 PM, a national flag-lowering ceremony was held at the Knesset Plaza, bringing flags to half-mast in honor of the fallen.
