As Israel faces a multi-front military reality, the Security Cabinet is expected to approve a broad reserve mobilization on Sunday, involving tens of thousands of reservists, with the potential for expansion into the hundreds of thousands, according to IDF officials. IDF reserve units have already received advanced notice, and the move is being coordinated under Emergency Order 8 (“Tzav 8”), the legal framework for mass call-ups during wartime.

Strategic Redeployment: Freeing Up Elite Units for Gaza
The mobilization is aimed at reinforcing Israel’s northern and Judea and Samaria fronts, thereby freeing up elite standing forces—including the Golani and Givati brigades, as well as Armored Divisions 188 and 401—to continue pushing deeper into Hamas strongholds in Gaza.

For the first time in this campaign, all three regular combat engineering battalions are simultaneously deployed in the Gaza Strip.

Operational Readiness Fueled by Combat Experience
The IDF sees its reservist corps not as a stopgap measure, but as a strategic asset. “The operational experience gained over the past 18 months across all theaters has made our reservists exceptionally battle-ready,” said a senior military official. “They are performing at a high professional level, able to operate independently in critical combat zones.”

Cabinet Decision Signals Next Phase of War
The expected Cabinet decision marks a pivotal point in the ongoing campaign and may indicate Israel’s preparation for escalation in both Gaza and Lebanon. Military analysts view this as a signal of long-term readiness, not merely a short-term tactic.
