In collaboration with the Air Force, and through MAFAT (Directorate of Defense Research and Development) and the Procurement Administration (MANHAR), The Ministry of Defense has launched a project for the development and initial installation of an advanced defense suite for the F-16I fighter jets, with a budget of approximately $80 million.

Led by Elbit Systems, the jets will be equipped with innovative technologies designed to ensure maximum protection in complex combat scenarios and the survivability of the F-16I aircraft, enabling safe operation in hostile environments.

The defense suite will include the following systems:
– Electronic Warfare (EW) System: Provides advanced capabilities for disrupting and neutralizing threats.
– Electro-Optical (EO) Missile Warning and Launch Detection System (PAWS): Enables early detection of threats in both aerial and ground combat scenarios.
– Advanced Chaff and Flares Dispensing System: Adds an additional layer of protection by diverting guided missiles.

Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, stated: “In today’s global landscape, safeguarding aerial platforms is crucial. Elbit Systems has cemented its position as a global leader in airborne platform protection, delivering an extensive portfolio of advanced solutions installed onboard various aerial platforms.”

“Strengthening the Independence of Israeli Defense Industries”
The Ministry of Defense stated this morning (Monday) that the initiative is part of a number of strategic deals promoted by the ministry, powerfully leveraging Israel’s technology ecosystem across multiple domains. The objective is “to strengthen the independence of Israeli defense industries and reduce reliance on external factors. All of this aims to ensure qualitative superiority and support both current and future operational needs of the IDF, under all conditions,” the statement said.
