Today (Sunday), Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana hosted 120 outstanding IDF soldiers and officers who were selected as the President’s Honorees for 2025 (Hebrew year 5785). Joining the event were several government and army representatives.
Another Long and Challenging Chapter in Israel’s War of Independence
Addressing the soldiers, Ohana said: “We are still in the midst of the ‘Swords of Iron’ war—the longest and toughest of Israel’s wars—which began with the brutal October 7 terror attack and has since unfolded across seven different fronts. This war has exacted a terrible toll: fallen soldiers, wounded, and hostages. For some of you, it meant the loss of family members, comrades, and commanders. Fifty-nine of our brothers and sisters remain in enemy captivity. This is yet another long and difficult chapter in the Jewish state’s war for independence and survival, continuing 77 years after its founding.”
The Source of Israel’s Strength
“Our enemies hoped to break us. They mistook our internal disagreements for weakness, not realizing they were actually the source of our strength as a free society. They encountered instead your fighting spirit and that of your fellow warriors,” Ohana continued.
“You became the wellspring of Israel’s resilience, combining forces to achieve what we all yearn for: victory in war, the return of all our hostages, and the safe return of displaced citizens to their homes. Thanks to you and your comrades in arms, Israel has turned the tide on the battlefield, reignited hope among its people, eliminated senior enemy commanders, and brought many hostages home. The State of Israel is committed to bringing every last hostage back—and it will happen.”

Thank You for Choosing Every Day to Excel
“In this time of great national trial, each of you rose above yourselves. Excellence during wartime, when Israeli citizens needed you most, speaks to your extraordinary commitment to Israel’s security and your deep understanding of the historic moment we are living through,” Ohana said.
“You worked tirelessly to protect Israel’s citizens. On behalf of the Knesset and the people of Israel, thank you for choosing—every day—to excel for this beloved nation, for the State of Israel, and for our flag. I love you, I am proud of you, and I salute you.”
