The photo, shared by journalist Yanki Farber, shows members of a family from the Gur Hasidic sect attending their son’s IDF swearing-in ceremony for the Hashmonaim Battalion – an unusual event that took place yesterday (Thursday).

Farber noted that aside from enlistment still being controversial in some Haredi circles, the family also belongs to various factions within the Hasidic religious group Gur, a division that usually leads to estrangement or even tension among them.
However, this time, the entire family came together “as one man with one heart” – in an emotional moment that emphasized their familial bond and pride in the son’s enlistment in the IDF.
Hashmonaim Battalion Swearing-In Ceremony
Yesterday, the swearing-in of the second cohort of the Haredi Hashmonaim Battalion was held.
As part of the ceremony, a siyum masechet (completion of a Talmudic tractate) was conducted, led by one of the recruits.
An integral part of their training includes daily Torah study, even during physically demanding and exhausting days. Thus, alongside their military service, the soldiers maintain their religious way of life.
