In light of Hamas’ continued refusal to release Israeli hostages, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has been preparing for a major military maneuver that will divide Gaza City into two distinct zones, according to a report by Israeli news site, Walla, published Sunday morning.

The move is expected to result in Hamas losing control over more than 50% of Gaza’s territory.

The operation, which would require a major reserve mobilization and redeployment of IDF units from areas such as Lebanon and Samaria, also includes the planned establishment of food distribution centers across Gaza.

These centers would be operated in partnership with American civilian companies, with the goal of removing Hamas’ grip on the local population and undermining its governance.

Heavy Fighting Continues on Three Fronts
In parallel, the IDF continues intense combat operations in the northern, central, and southern regions of the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, engineering units are actively demolishing Hamas structures and underground networks. Military officials say the IDF has gained control over approximately 40% of Gaza, destroying 1,300 targets and killing over 400 militants, including several senior operatives.

Hamas Caught Off Guard
According to reports, Hamas leadership was surprised by the rapid resumption of IDF operations following the collapse of the recent ceasefire.

Currently, the group is focused on guerrilla tactics and preserving its remaining strength, engaging IDF forces with anti-tank missiles, IEDs, and sniper fire, while avoiding direct confrontations.

The IDF emphasizes that all operations are being guided by precise intelligence to minimize risk to hostages. Military pressure is seen as a key tool in forcing Hamas back to the negotiating table.
