JERUSALEM — In a targeted airstrike earlier today, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) eliminated Hussain Izzat Muhammad Atwi, a senior operative of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Lebanon, an organization closely aligned with Hamas.

The precision strike took place in the area of Na’ameh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon. Atwi, identified as a terror engineer, was reportedly involved in orchestrating attacks both along Israel’s northern border and internationally.

Planned Attacks on Multiple Fronts
According to the IDF, Atwi was a key figure in planning rocket launches from Lebanese territory, coordinating terror infrastructure in the north, and attempting cross-border infiltrations. He was also linked to efforts to target Israeli assets abroad, marking him as a significant transnational threat.

No Safe Havens
In an official statement, the IDF emphasized that the operation was part of a broader doctrine of preemptive counter-terrorism: “The IDF will continue to act against Hamas operatives wherever they are—even outside Israel’s borders—in order to dismantle terror infrastructure and disrupt threats before they materialize.”

Background & Implications
Atwi’s affiliation with the Islamic Jihad movement in Lebanon, and his operational overlap with Hamas, highlights a growing trend of regional terror collaboration. The strike serves as a strategic message amid rising tensions along Israel’s northern frontier and ongoing warfare in Gaza.
