In a bold post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the spokesperson for the Hungarian government Zoltán Kovács announced today (Friday) that Hungary will reconsider its cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, following the arrest warrants issued against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Trump’s decision to impose sanctions on the ICC is completely understandable,” Kovács wrote on behalf of Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. “The Hague Tribunal has turned itself into a biased political tool and has tarnished the entire international legal system. Hungary is now reconsidering its cooperation with the International Criminal Court.”

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar expressed strong support for the announcement in a post on his own X account.

First European Nation to Take a Strong Stand
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar responded to the Hungarian foreign minister’s statement, writing: “As I said during my visit to Budapest two weeks ago: Hungary is a country that knows how to distinguish between good and evil. Hungary’s clear and moral stance is based on principles of justice and sovereignty.”

Hungary is now the first European country to announce the possibility of halting cooperation with the ICC. The statement from Hungary’s foreign minister comes exactly two weeks after Sa’ar’s visit to the country.

As previously reported, last night U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The measure was taken following arrest warrants issued by the ICC against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Under these sanctions, economic restrictions and entry bans will be imposed on those who assisted in the investigation, as well as their family members.

Hungary’s bold stance reinforces the growing international support for Israel against politically motivated actions. As allies stand firm, Israel continues to uphold its sovereignty and legitimacy on the global stage.
