Hostage Survivor in Powerful Response to Propaganda: “There Are No Journalists There”

Shlomi Ziv, who survived Hamas captivity, responded to MK Ayman Odeh’s reference to a terrorist as simply a "journalist", citing his own experience to assert that in Gaza “everyone is Hamas — there are no journalists who won’t cooperate with terror.”

The comments by MK Ayman Odeh regarding the killing of a “journalist” in Gaza sparked the outrage of Shlomi Ziv, one of the hostages freed from captivity. Ziv, who experienced life in Gaza firsthand, wrote on X: “Everyone is Hamas — there are no journalists there who aren’t Hamas, because they’ll be killed if they tell the truth,” and pledged to join efforts to remove Odeh from the Knesset.

Firsthand Testimony from Captivity
Ziv wrote that during his captivity, he was held by a man publicly presented as a journalist, whose father was a doctor — an example which, he said, shows Hamas’s infiltration into every possible sector in Gaza, including civilian professions.

Ziv’s remarks went viral, reigniting public debate in Israel over the nature of “journalists” in Gaza and Hamas’s cynical use of civilian professions for propaganda and to conceal terror activity.

Determined to Fight
Ziv concluded his comments with a vow to do everything in his power to remove Odeh from the Knesset — a statement that gained widespread support on social media from those who saw in him a clear voice of someone who had personally endured the reality in Gaza.
