On Saturday, the Hamas terror organization released a new photo of hostage Matan Zangauker receiving intravenous fluids in Gaza. Alongside the image, Hamas claimed that the IDF is conducting intense military activity near the location where Zangauker is being held.
Defense officials refute the claims
In the image, which was distributed via Hamas Telegram channels, Matan is seen lying on a mattress while receiving an IV. Hamas presented the photo as proof that the IDF is endangering his life through its current operations. Zangauker’s family, who remains in regular contact with security officials, is receiving ongoing updates regarding the credibility of the publication.
Israeli defense sources emphasized that, contrary to the claims, intelligence assessments indicate no hostages are currently located in the area where military activity is taking place. Officials familiar with the situation said Hamas’s latest move is part of a psychological warfare effort.

As previously reported, about a month ago Hamas claimed that a tunnel collapse injured Matan while he was with fellow hostage Edan Alexander. Weeks later, following Alexander’s release, he confirmed the report.
Edan’s account
Matan’s mother, Einav Zangauker, spoke at a hostage families’ press event Saturday evening at the Begin Gate in Tel Aviv. She said that Matan had been in severe physical and emotional distress in captivity, stopped eating, and barely communicated — even with Edan Alexander in the weeks before his release.
“He withdrew, suffered from intense stomach pain, lay in a fetal position, and didn’t speak. His mental state has deteriorated — and now, he’s alone,” she said.
