Hamas announced today (Wednesday) that it is rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal, according to a report by the AP news agency. Last night, President Trump revealed that Israel had agreed to the proposal, which includes a 60-day ceasefire, the release of hostages, and discussions on continuing the war.

Hamas is demanding a full commitment to a complete end of the war in Gaza as a condition for agreeing to the deal and releasing several hostages. Israel has not agreed to end the war outright and is only willing to do so if Hamas disarms.

Trump: Israel Agreed to Ceasefire
This morning, Trump announced that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire. “My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza,” Trump wrote. “Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 day ceasefire.”

He concluded with warning to Hamas, in his signature capitalized style: “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to fly to the U.S. next week for a diplomatic visit and will discuss the matter with President Trump.
