A significant government decision was made today (Sunday) as part of efforts to rehabilitate the north. The decision includes an extensive economic aid package aimed at supporting evacuees returning home safely and respectfully. Key components of the plan include grants for returning residents, assistance in rebuilding homes, and infrastructure restoration.
Grant Details
Residents of communities deemed safe for return – and who do not receive compensation from Tkumah or similar organizations – will be eligible for a one-time grant of up to 10,000 shekels per child, and 5,000 shekels per adult, along with a gradual transition grant based on varying amounts.
Planned Evolution of the North
Minister Zeev Elkin, responsible for rehabilitating the north and south, stated:
“The state’s goal in this process is not just to bring residents back home but to advance the north. We are acting based on security assessments and preparing for every scenario. We are working hand-in-hand with local leadership and government ministries on a five-year plan that will be presented soon.

This decision is the first step in a gradual, measured process to help residents return to their homes, enable students to complete the school year in the best way possible, and promote the rehabilitation and growth of the north as a whole. This is a top national priority and we are fully committed to its success.”
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich added: “The safe return of northern residents, along with the development and prosperity of the region, represents a victory for the residents and the State of Israel. We are committed to the residents of the north, and advancing these programs alongside local leadership is an essential first step we are taking for the benefit of the region.”
