Official sources in Gaza claimed Thursday evening that Zakaria Sinwar, brother of Hamas leaders Yahya and Mohammad Sinwar, died of his wounds after being injured in an Israeli airstrike last Saturday. According to reports, the strike targeted a tent within the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where he was staying with his two sons—both of whom were also killed.

Reported Dead—Then Alive
Initial reports on Sunday in Gaza claimed that Sinwar had been killed, but within hours, conflicting reports emerged stating that signs of life had been detected at the hospital and that he was in critical condition. Now, with the release of an official statement by Gaza sources, the period of uncertainty may be ending—and his death confirmed.

His Role in Hamas
Zakaria Sinwar did not hold an official senior position like his brother Yahya, Hamas leader in Gaza, or Mohammad, a senior figure in the military wing. However, he was considered a respected and influential family figure with internal logistical connections in the organization. His presence at the tent may not have been incidental and could have been related to a closed meeting or regional coordination.
