Today (Wednesday), the Israeli security establishment decided to prevent the ship “Madeline,” currently en route from Italy to the Gaza Strip, from approaching or docking at Gaza’s shores.

Options on the Table: Leave the Ship at Sea or Arrest the Activists in Ashdod
On board the ship operated by the “Freedom Flotilla” organization are 12 pro-Palestinian activists, including climate activist Greta Thunberg and “Game of Thrones” actor Liam Cunningham. The vessel is expected to reach the area in approximately four to five days. Initially, authorities considered allowing the ship entry to Gaza after security assessments found it posed no threat. However, to avoid setting a precedent that could undermine the naval blockade on the Gaza Strip, a firm decision was made to block its arrival.

Defense Minister Katz to Hold Special Meeting
Defense Minister Israel Katz is expected to hold a special discussion on the matter tomorrow (Thursday). Among the options being considered: leaving the ship stranded in open waters or escort it to Ashdod Port, where the activists would be detained.

Distress Signal Sent – In Vain
Yesterday the activists aboard the flotilla, including Greta Thunberg and actor Liam Cunningham, sent out a dramatic distress signal after spotting a low-flying “Heron” drone circling above the ship. It was later confirmed that the drone belonged to the Greek Coast Guard—not Israeli or Iranian as initially feared.

Second Attempt in Recent Months
This marks the second attempt in recent months to launch a flotilla to Gaza. In May, another ship from the same organization claimed to have been damaged in international waters near Malta.
