Captain Ido Wallach was laid to rest today (Sunday). His funeral procession was attended by hundreds of residents and students in Jerusalem. Wallach was killed over the weekend during a clash with terrorists in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood of Gaza City.
His mother eulogized him during the funeral: “You fought bravely throughout this entire period, and in the end, you went out to rescue the wounded — and were killed yourself. It was so important to you to bring the hostages home and to see the war come to an end.”

Wallach, 21, from Jerusalem, was an officer in the Armored Corps and a platoon commander in Battalion 46 of the 401st Brigade. He had recently completed the officers’ training course, commanded tank crews during ground maneuvers in northern Gaza, and was known among his soldiers as a principled, devoted, and calming figure even during the fiercest battles.

“He Wanted to Give Everything He Could”
Guy, a close friend, shared on IDF Radio (Galei Tzahal): “When Ido enlisted in the Armored Corps, the sense of mission he carried was extraordinary. When the war broke out, his desire to defend the place he came from burned even stronger — he wanted to give everything he could for the country.”
Uri, Ido’s brother, spoke this morning on Kan Bet (Reshet Bet) about Ido’s decision to join the Armored Corps. “When everyone else was eager to join elite reconnaissance units, he chose to serve in the Armored Corps, following in our father’s footsteps. He loved it — he loved the tanks and the good people he served with. Just a week ago, we received a video of him at his rank ceremony. From what we understand, within two days, he had already been promoted again.”
“Now Watch Over Us — From Above Too”

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Ido’s aunt Sharon eulogized him: “Ido the king. That’s what we called you in the family. A hero of Israel who fell in battle while saving others. Please watch over us now — from above too.”
Bat Ami Belsan, a relative, wrote: “Anyone who knew Ido would describe a man of incredible modesty — a tall figure who seemed to rise above others with his extraordinary gentleness and nobility. He spoke little and did so much. He was high-quality, responsible, funny, beloved by all, kind-hearted, gentle, powerful, and sweet.”
Belsan also shared that Ido loved to cook special meals and always hosted guests with his entire heart and soul. “He was bold and daring, yet had a gentle, lofty spirit. Though athletic and strong, he was so delicate. He had a powerful presence and yet remained humble,” she added.
Ido is survived by his parents and two siblings.
